Just about anybody reading this review has probably seen “This is Spinal Tap” as many times as the band has changed drummers. What you really want to know is whether the DVD extras are worth the mark. YES. Theatrical trailers about cheese rolling festivals, David St. Hubbins with strait hair in an early short that eventually evolved into the film, Prefer Reiner begging people to prove the movie in their theaters, deleted scenes that produce and interpret the wintry sores the band keeps ending up with, and the bloody demise of Janine (well, we can dream can’t we? ) all this and more can be yours for the extreme coarse notice of…whatever. Anyway, if you’re a Tap fan and you’ve got a DVD player, score this disc. If you’re a Tap fan and you’ve got this disc, score a DVD player. If you’re a Tap fan without the disc or a DVD player, talk your rich buddy with all the cold home theater equipment into buying this disc, then survey it at his plot and eat all the potato chips in the house. If you’re not a Tap fan, you can rep a copy of “The Sound of Music” around here somewhere, I’m gorgeous distinct. I’ve always view of Derrick Smalls as kind of a short hairy version of Julie Andrews anyway.

Superb (m/r) ockumentary of the semi-fictitious band “Spinal Tap”, made up of Michael McKean (”Lenny”, soul mate of Squigy, on the TV series “Laverne & Shirley”), Christopher Guest (actor/director of “Waiting for Guffman”), Harry Shearer (performs voices of 22 different characters on “The Simpsons”), and a random selection of ever-changing drummers. The movie is a tongue-in-cheek parody of washed-up hard rock bands that calm contemplate they are God’s gift to the universe. The inspired idiocy borders on genius at times, lending weight to Michael’s observation that there is a “pleasing line between humdrum and clever”.

The DVD is simply astonishing. For starters, everything is in character. From the style of the main menu title shroud, to the menu voice-overs by the band, and extending through all of the extra material included on the DVD, the personas of the band (and the fictitious director as well) are maintained with perfect consistency.

What makes this all the more fabulous is the shear quantity of extras on the disk. For starters, there is about an hour of “deleted” scenes provided. In addition, there are numerous music videos, TV commercials (spurious I presume??? ), and trailers. And as if that weren’t enough, there is also a commentary track throughout the entire film with the band members, completely in character, being as hilariously idiotic as they are in the film. The Spinal Tap commentary track is easily the most bright commentary in my extensive DVD library.

The DVD medium is build to sparkling consume as well. Menu transitions are computer animations inspired by some of the film’s funniest moments. Each menu plays a different “Tap” song, giving you access to a decent percentage of the sound track. And, unbiased as importantly, the animations are not overdone; the menus are unruffled easy to employ, and the transitions only purchase a few seconds.

Overall, this DVD is a gigantic value, and provides a huge amount of material not available in the VHS version. If you are a Tap fan, or would like to be, you NEED this DVD!

White Lightning is one of my celebrated Burt films. Unfortunately, this DVD is a watered down version of the excessive unusual. Not that you need it, but most of the foul-language has been poorly dubbed over to words like, “shoot” and “dang”. One of the main character’s deaths at the waste of the film is gash - you don’t notice the villain shot, you only gaze him after the fact. I wonder if this was the only available print that MGM could pick up in their vaults? In addition, MGM adds insult to injury by releasing a full-frame (pan-and-scan) version! Ouch! Quality of the portray is ample, but that’s no reason to plunk down your hard-earned cash on an incomplete version of this film. I’m dismal.

While watching White Lighting (1973) yesterday, I couldn’t wait on mediate a more appropriate title might have been Hillbillies, Moonshine and Pit Stains, as there were copious amounts of each throughout the film…written by William W. Norton (Colossal Awful Mama, Day of the Animals), who also wrote the subsequent sequel titled Gator (1976), White Lighting was directed by Joseph `No Time For’ Sargent (Colossus: The Forbin Project, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three) and stars Burt Reynolds (Deliverance, The Longest Yard) . Also appearing is Bo Hopkins (The Getaway, Midnight Impart), Ned Beatty (Silver Chase, Superman), Jennifer Billingsley (The Thirsty Dull), Matt Clark (Jeremiah Johnson, Brubaker), R.G. Armstrong (Hurry with the Devil, Dixie Dynamite), and Diane Ladd (The Wild Angels, Chinatown), whose genuine life daughter, Laura Dern, makes her first, silver camouflage appearance in an uncredited role as Diane Ladd’s characters daughter.

The film opens with the killing of two young men (hippies college students, I suspect, given their youthful appearance and longish hair) in a remote place of the bayou at the hands of two police officers. Well, turns out one of the boys impartial happened to be the younger brother of Gator McKlusky (Reynolds), who’s currently pulling a stint in the local penitentiary on a charge of running (delivering) illegally distilled whiskey, aka moonshine aka white lighting. Gator takes the news hard, tries to sprint, but eventually finds himself in the state of making a deal with the feds, as both the gooberment and Gator have their eyes on the same target, that of Sheriff J.C. Connors (Beatty), the most remarkable man in Bogan County, and also the one responsible for killing Gator’s brother (the feds want Connors because he controls the lucrative hasten of `shine in Bogan County) . The understanding is for Gator to infiltrate the `shine operation in Bogan County and gain as considerable information as he can, but Gator honest wants a shot at Sheriff Connors (vengeance is a dish best served sweaty, in Bogan County, at least) . The feds provide Gator with a souped up car and a slightly unwilling contact in that of Dude Watson (Clark), who hooks Gator up with local runner Roy Boone (Hopkins), which leads to local `shine maker Expansive Absorb (Armstrong), and eventually Connors himself. But therein lies the problem…you examine, Gator is a beneficial ole boy, so the conception of ratting on his enjoy kin, making a living doing what they’ve always done (distilling and selling whiskey), makes him sick to his stomach, but his desire salvage benefit at Connors for his brothers death is something that can’t be denied…

If you’re looking for some salubrious used fashion, sweat stained, engine revving, tire smokin’, spend huffing, balls out visceral entertainment, perceive no further. This was Reynolds initial foray into the `good ole boy’ soon-to-be-his-trademark character, one that reached its pinnacle in the film Smokey and the Bandit (1977), as previous roles mainly included him playing Native American characters like Joe in Navajo Joe (1966), Red Hand in Blade Rider, Revenge of the Indian Nations (1966), and Yaqui Joe Herrera in 100 Rifles (1969) . Many judge this to be his finest on cover performance (I was always partial to his role as Paul Crewe in the 1974 film The Longest Yard), one that certainly agreed with him as he revived the character a few years later in the film Gator (1976) …this was also the begin of his `quipping’ in films…you know, that thing where he makes a smarmy joke, and then he’s usually the only one who laughs? I mediate my common scene in this film is the one with Gator and Dude in Gator’s car, and the pull up to Sheriff Connors in town for a first meeting (for Gator, at least) . Gator knows the sheriff had something to do with his brother’s death, so he comes off in sort of an antagonizing contrivance reviving the engine of his hot rod while Dude nervously makes runt talk with the sheriff. Beatty’s character gives the unknown man a superb, long glimpse as if to say, “I’m the law, and I don’t know you, but I’ve got my watch on you.”…either that, or he was hot for him…another vast scene features R.G. Armstrong getting whacked upside the head with a boat oar…I felt that one myself…probably the most painful sequences fervent Reynolds emoting in character about the loss of his brother, and trying to comprehend the reasoning why…I questioned this particular site aspect of the film, but then realized it was considerable because Reynolds would have needed that extra motivation to force his character to work with the feds, going against his absorb peoples…that draw he doesn’t peep like a complete sh*t…in this exertion, they also had to form the villain, Beatty’s character, incredibly vile as to design away from Gator’s betrayal of his people (I guess it wasn’t dreadful enough he was a killer) . This is illustrated in numerous scenes, like when the sheriff is interrogating (torturing) Dude’s father by shoving the dilapidated man’s hand in a doorframe in order to catch some information, letting his deputies manhandle Dude’s wife, played by Diane Ladd, the plot they did, or his derogatory comments about minorities and hippies. One thing this movie has a lot of is consuming and well exercised car spin sequences. When done lawful, the viewer can almost feel the pull of the gravitational force taking a turn at 40 mph and smell the rubber burning as the accelerator is punched to the floor. And the stunts, for the most share, weren’t over the top crazy, but strong, solid, and believable (the one where Gator partially lands his car on a garbage scow might have been the one exception) . One thing that seemed really unfamiliar about this movie was the definite removal some of the dialog through post-production dubbing (they took out the swears) . I believe this was done prior to the new release as to gather a PG rating…I’m unsure if any scenes have been shortened in terms of removing violence or nekkidness in a further worry to satisfy the rating requirement, but I’d probably say yes…

One thing that annoyed me most of all about this release, and the reason I’m going three stars instead of four, is that there is only the paunchy conceal, pan & scan (1.33:1) version available on this DVD. Why they couldn’t include both is beyond me, but I guess the studio was objective trying to put a few bucks and figured we wouldn’t care…I noticed the same treatment for the film Gator, which I won’t be buying unless they determine to re-release it with both formats. The narrate quality on this DVD does examine decent, but, as someone else mentioned, it does appear a puny too dusky, especially during the shaded or nighttime scenes. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono comes through well enough, and in terms of special features, there’s only a trailer for the film.

I loved this movie when I was a cramped girl, and have been trying to track it down since the neighbor who owned it moved away when I was 10 years frail. This movie traces Nadia’s career in gymnastics, starting from the moment she was discovered in the schoolyard by Bela Caroli when she was only 5 or 6 years former. We learn of the difficulties Nadia encounters, as her life is slowly taken over by the sport in many ways. However, we also recognize all of her victories, starting with the competition where she was chosen to relate her country and first stole the spotlight from the other young gymnasts. The movie follows Nadia’s life up to the Olympics, and the gymnastics scenes are all intercut with scenes from Nadia’s dependable performances.I absorb that anybody who loves gymnastics will really luxuriate in this movie. I really hope that it will be rereleased on VHS because I can’t wait to remove a copy of my maintain!

I bought this VHS for my daughter, who is starting gymnastics lessons on the drop. While it was a respectable introduction to gymnastics for her, I can’t wait on but feel really cheated. There is a LOT missing from this VHS version! There are scenes that abruptly crop off without explanation. There is a nice scene in the beginning where Nadia meets another dinky gymnast, they do an impromptu gymnastics routine together and lie on the mat and talk. That entire scene was cleave out, so you’re left not even sparkling that they are friends. The was a lot more missing - more towards the slay, that I realized after the film was over. I’m not determined why they didn’t objective release the film in its entirety, but it left the viewer with a feeling that character development was rather shallow, and it was more like a snappily after-school special than a “bio”, which is what the fresh version was. I would suggest waiting for this to eventually reappear on cable, rather than buying this version if you want something complete.

I purchased this doccumentary to exhaust in my English classes as a lead in and introduction to our mythology sections. It was a very well done and informative fraction that held the students’ interest throughout. Since my steal of the film our library has purchased the whole series. Educational, spirited, everything a History Channel fraction should be!

I purchased this for my introduction to religion course, and they loved it. Very salubrious, and very informative. I highly recommend this!

This is a exquisite movie, beautifully photographed on situation (no phony Hollywood sets here) . The performances are stellar throughout, but Gary Cooper is outstanding as the family patriarch. Peruse him acting, the subtle shifts in gait, his facial expressions and nuances do him the gargantuan star that he was. They don’t build ‘em like Cooper anymore. Anthony Perkins is also splendid as the vacillating Josh Birdwell, the Quaker boy gone off to fight in the Civil War and Dorothy McGwire is quietly effective. There is considerable humor throughout the movie, you’ll laugh our loud many times.

This is a enormous movie for everyone in the family, adults and children alike. “Wholesome” is an archaic belief, this this movie lives up to that billing.

This gentle, sensitively crafted account of a loving Quaker family is the closest thing to a perfect movie I have advance across.

Usually touted as an anti-war film, Reliable Persuasion deals with young Josh Birdwell’s (Anthony Perkins) crisis of conscience over whether to fight the Confederate forces that have invaded his home location. But, the film has a broader sweep as well, fitting Josh’s struggle into the broader life of the Family. Sister Mattie is in adore with a Methodist, son of Papa’s friend Sam Jordan, with whom he races to Meeting and/or Church on Sundays. Microscopic Jess, the youngest, has a mortal fude with Mama’s pet goose Samantha.

And, Mama and Papa? Different as their outlooks on life seem, they esteem each other very remarkable. Without sinking to the maudlin this film, like The Sundowners, portrays two people who have been married for about twenty years and are totally, charmigly in fancy.

The record takes status over unprejudiced a few weeks, but the brief time-span allows for a depth of realization which, by the destroy, leaves the viewer feeling that she/he kknows and is very fond of this family.

Perfect for snuggling with that special someone, or watchig as a family project.

I had seen this in Japanese (although in a horrible-quality print) but I knew this would be astounding. And guess what? The dubbers didn’t demolish this one! Not only that, but the extra feature, the UNCUT account of Mewtwo’s Origin is well worth the ticket of the DVD by itself! Having heard all about the mysterious Japanese CD Drama, “Birth of Mewtwo”, which explains the creation of everyone’s well-liked angsty, psychic cat, it was truly spectacular to actually study this in animation. That in itself explains more about the character of Mewtwo than the entire first movie! The main fable of Mewtwo Returns focuses on Giovanni, a character who never gets enough conceal time, and one of his star agents, Domino AKA “The Dusky Tulip”, agent 009. And she’s perfectly outrageous! Like in the previous Pokemon movies, our accepted Rockets (Jessie, James, and Meowth) play a valorous role (and fetch lots of conceal time, might I add!) . The animation is spectacular, like the other Pokemon movies, and even though the record is somewhat shorter, you don’t even sight. In a contrivance, it’s better, since the sage moves fast without any filler. I recommend this to any Pokemon fan, but especially the older fans out there. This is a bit more intense than the TV note (like the other movies were) but I contemplate it’s distinguished better than the first 2 movies. If you ever liked Mewtwo at all, or wondered what happened after the first movie, you HAVE to watch this!

Ah, Myuutsuu sama ^_^ It’s beneficial to study him encourage in action again, for alot of people were dying to know what happened to him after the First Movie. I have seen the Japanese dub to this, and I know not to request the same for the American version but hey I am mad about this as any hard core Mewtwo fan is ^_^

Basically the position goes that Mewtwo is spotted by Team Rocket living on an island that seems to acquire a type a magical relivitalizing water. Of course Ash and Co. stumble across a lady studying the water and thus gain caught up with Mewtwo (again.) But Mewtwo has long since changed his ways, and discusses the beauty of the world with his devoted clones, to which you may remember, of Pikachu and Meowth.

Of course Giovanni wants his bought and paid for all remarkable clone abet, and sets about sending a whole air armarda after Mewtwo and his clones. What happens to them all, hey ya gonna hafta engage it ^_^ But when in Pokemon is there not a blissful ending? ^_~

This film stars Gary Cooper as a puny town college professor and Teresa Wright as the society woman he meets and immediately falls head over heels in care for with while on a skedaddle to Unusual York. He’s trying to net a book published about his ancestor, the renowned lover Casanova. Her mother however who consults the astrology charts for every decision she makes tells the newlyweds that their marriage is doomed to fail. Cooper disagrees and a heated argument insues between the family which eventually leads to an anullment. Nine months later support in his home town Cooper is site to marry Anita Louise whose father played by Frank Morgan (the wizard from the Wizard of Oz) is adamantly against the marriage. Not because he dislikes Cooper but because he dislikes marriage! He turns in a very laughable performance as the cranky father of the bride. On the day before their wedding Cooper receives a cryptic letter from a maternity hospital in Chicago saying they need to grunt with him. He recounts the account of his week long marriage to a woman in Unique York to Morgan and he encourages him to go to Chicago and inspect what’s going on.

There’s a very humorous bit once he gets to the hospital and they escort him to a room and content him to undress. He’s quite perplexed seeing as how it’s a maternity hospital and he’s a man. They race him through a battery of tests as other expectant father’s ogle in disbelief while they wheel him around on a hospital bed. It turns out that Wright has had a baby girl and Cooper is the father. She plans to place her up for adoption and they ran all the tests on him to bag his medical information. At first he is very surprised to know that he has a child but once he sees her he’s completely smitten and also very upset that she will be given away. He can’t talk Wright out of it so out of desparation he dresses like a doctor and kidnaps his slight girl.

After checking into a hotel he enlists a bellman and a maid to relieve him remove care of his daughter. He knows very tiny about babies but with the aid of some books he gets the hang of it sparkling rapidly. My well-liked scene is where he mistakes her fast weight bag (which is normal for newborns) as a label of a glandular dilemma. He sits on the bed looking at his daughter and very sweetly whispers to her ‘daddy will like you no matter how large you get’. I don’t want to give away the ending but it is a glad one.

The movie was released in 1944 and I can imagine it was quite repugnant to survey a single man taking care of a baby. Cooper even says in one scene how unfair it is that a man can race the country but they won’t let him pick care of his believe child unless he’s married. This is a very sweet and comic movie and I would support you to give it a perceive.

I had heard of this film but never got the chance to view it until recently on TCM. What a exquisite film! I had forgotten that Gary Cooper made another film with the fair and talented Teresa Wright. She was not only pleasing, but made you feel like you were ‘home’ whenever she is on the conceal. This is a sentimental film but also very funny- I will be buying the DVD so I can add this adorable film to my collection of classic films. What a pleasure to peer a film that actually has a storyline you can follow without the usual sex scenes in movies today, and best of all no profanity! When Teresa Wright’s character has the baby you know Gary Cooper is the father, but we didn’t have to ogle the plan to know how the baby got there….well…what a original conception! Not showing an intimate moment between a man and a woman and we actually bag it! Reflect about it…do we really need to explore all that nonsense in the show day movies to accumulate the point??? I consider not! This is what makes these films timeless- Hopefully the movie studios will continue to release these extraordinary classic films.

Wow! What a graceful film this is! Kwaidan is quite possibly the most fine scary movie you will ever gaze. The cinematography in Kwaidan is pleasurable, and the film has an anecdote feel to it, rather fresh for a fright film. In fact, I would even call this film the “2001″ of dread movies, and I imagine that if Stanley Kubrick had gotten around to directing a Japanese-style dread movie, it would explore a lot like this film.

Kwaidan was made in the mid-1960s, and at the time, it was the most expensive Japanese film ever made. It was a gargantuan success at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. The film is a collection of four ghost stories, told with a decidedly Japanese flair. The first anecdote is about a man who abandons his wife only to return years later. The second yarn is about a man’s encounter with a snow vampiress. The third chronicle, my well-liked, is about a monk who gives nocturnal recitals for mysterious and ghostly hosts. The last epic is about a man who drinks down a ghost. That’s all you really need to know, as the stories are quite straight-forward. It is the manner in which they are told and photographed that makes them so grand.

The pacing is very deliberate and tedious but gives you plenty of time to savor the numerous elegant images that appear on-screen. The director, Kobayashi, filmed Kwaidan in a very surrealistic fashion, and the entire soundtrack was post-dubbed. As such, the sound effects reach and go in very unexpected ways, like nervous twitches. This lends a further eerie atmosphere to the film.

The DVD is by Criterion, so you can interrogate a big transfer. And the transfer is absolutely blooming! Fair discover at the trailer (included on the DVD) and compare with the quality of the film itself, and you will be amazed. The describe is crystal distinct with quick-witted colors and deep dark (the many night scenes recognize mountainous, not muddy at all) . There are no pixelations or artifacts and barely a effect here or there of scratch marks that belie the film’s age. Sound is monophonic. Too poor Criterion didn’t include a commentary track, but I speak with an almost 3-hour film, there wasn’t distinguished room left on the DVD for anything else.

Still, if you like eerie ghost movies like The Innocents or The Haunting (novel B/W version) or The Changeling, you will really luxuriate in this film. Kwaidan is not horrifying or scary in a “Halloween” or “Yell” manner; rather it creates an uneasy sensation of awe and despair. Highly highly recommended!

I remember seeing this movie on halloween night of 2002 on IFC when they were playing the most stunning and bizarre films ever made, after watching a lot of classic american dread films, i was already bored of watching them, because i already knew what was going to happen. I remember it was around 8 pm, noone home i was on the computer typing something and figure it wouldnt be worth sitting down watching these movie, until this movie the first of the six movies they were playing. The credits alone at the beginning of the film and the music made me want to discover it and notice what this bewitching portion of art was, i wouldnt even deem it a film, its more of 4 storys of art. So lovely, i read somewhere that it was the first color japanese film in Japan and thats the reason why there is so powerful color. Something this glorious can only be contemplate on a pleasurable dvd at night to seek this lovely section. If you like this movie, check out the movie others the director did, i seen them all and they are very suitable.

The episode “Holy Matrimony” is very edifying! James’ past life is very inspiring. I don’t want to give anything away. If you like James at all, you’ll like this episode!

This is definitely one of the best Pokemon videos! It starts with “Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon”. Ash and his fellow twerps raze up in Grandpa Canyon, fair in time for the “Substantial Fossil Hurry”. Ash and Team Rocket kill up underground with an exasperated Aerodactyl! It’s up to Jigglypuff to attach the day! Next is “A Chansey Operation”. Doctor Proctor saves Pikachu from choking to death on an apple, but then has to support and entire truckload of Pokemon. After some light flirting, the Doc convinces Jessie to wait on him, along with the twerps. Finally, there’s “Holy Matrimony!” We secure out the truth about James’s past! His crazy finace, Jessiebelle (who looks like eveyone’s current Rocket Girl), tries to beget him hostage, but Growlie, his pet Growlithe comes to the rescue! Then, Jessie and James leave in thier balloon, provoking one of the most Rocketshippy moments in Pokemon history! This tape is the best!
